Dr Julia McCallum
HCPC Registered Clinical Psychologist
My name is Julia, and I am a clinical psychologist, having qualified with my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology almost 20 years ago. I have a wealth of experience in treating a wide range of difficulties and my career has has spanned a variety of clinical sectors including forensic, primary care services, inpatient settings and community mental health teams. Over recent years, however, I have developed a specialism in working with adults experiencing moderate to severe mental health difficulties within community mental health teams.
In addition to the wide range of treatment approaches my clinical training and experience as a clinical psychologist has provided me, I am also a qualified Cognitive Analytic Therapy Practitioner (CAT), an integrative approach which embraces Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and psychoanalytic principles. In addition to my extensive experience in CBT, I incorporate aspects of other treatment approaches such as mindfulness, compassion focussed therapy (CFT) and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) according to what will best help clients to achieve improved mental health and wellbeing. I have a particular passion for providing trauma focussed therapies, including trauma focussed CBT and Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR).
I also have a particular interest in assisting clients to navigate major transition points in their lives and the natural challenges that come with such significant changes, such as relationship endings, living with or recovering from significant physical health conditions and loss of significant attachments.
My clinical experience to date has proven to me time and time again that in addition to a client’s willingness and determination to heal, a solid, consistent and trusting relationship with one’s therapist is vital in the journey to achieving better mental health and wellbeing.
It is important that you feel safe, supported and in good working partnership with a therapist who understands you and the challenges you are facing, and who can help you gain clarity in identifying the best route to healing.
Within your sessions with me, you can be confident that you will be treated in a compassionate, supportive and non-judgemental way, and I look forward to helping you take the next best steps in your healing journey.
I can provide an initial free 10 minute telephone consultation which can help in planning the next best steps in your journey to healing, and in establishing if I am the right therapist for you at this time.
My fee is £120 per session, and I can provide either in person or online sessions.
