ADHD Assessments

A Strengths-Based, Person-Centred Approach to ADHD Assessments for Adults

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can impact focus, organisation, time management, and emotional regulation. If you have always struggled in these areas or feel that ADHD may be affecting your daily life, a professional assessment can provide clarity and guidance.

At our practice in Glasgow, Dr Louise Legg, a highly specialist psychologist with unique expertise in neurodevelopmental assessment, takes a person-centred, strengths-based approach to ADHD assessments. She recognises that ADHD presents differently in each individual and ensures that the process is supportive, respectful, and tailored to your specific experiences.

During the assessment, Louise will take the time to get to know you and understand your unique experience of the world. Her focus is not just on identifying challenges but also on recognising your strengths and how ADHD may have shaped your life.

All assessments follow NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) guidelines, ensuring the highest standards of clinical practice, reliability, and ethical care.

What Does the ADHD Assessment Involve?

Dr Legg’s ADHD assessments are comprehensive, evidence-based, and person-centred, ensuring that you feel heard and understood throughout the process.

Initial Consultation – A detailed discussion about your experiences, background, and what you hope to gain from the assessment.

Comprehensive Clinical Interview – An in-depth conversation exploring your developmental history, attention regulation, executive functioning, and emotional patterns.

Standardised ADHD Assessments – Using NICE-approved diagnostic tools to assess ADHD traits and rule out other potential explanations.

Collateral Information – If appropriate, gathering input from a family member, partner, or past records to support an accurate diagnosis.

Diagnostic Report & Feedback Session – A full written report summarising the findings, providing a diagnosis if applicable, and offering strengths-based, tailored recommendations.

The assessment is conducted over three to four appointments, typically completed within three to four weeks.

What Happens After the Assessment?

Receiving an ADHD diagnosis can be a transformative experience. Dr Legg provides more than just a diagnosis—she helps individuals understand their ADHD profile, supporting them in navigating life with confidence.

Following the assessment, you will receive:

  • A detailed explanation of the findings in a supportive, non-medicalised way.
  • Strengths-based strategies for managing ADHD traits at work, in education, and in daily life.
  • Recommendations for reasonable adjustments in work or study, following NICE guidelines.
  • Guidance on ADHD-friendly strategies to improve focus, organisation, and emotional regulation.
  • Advice on medication if appropriate and how to discuss this with your GP. We also work closely with psychiatrists in the local area who we can refer you to.
  • Referrals for additional support, including therapy, coaching, or peer networks if desired.

Even if ADHD is not diagnosed, the process provides meaningful insights into your cognitive and emotional patterns, helping you move forward with greater self-understanding.
