About our work together

Hello, I’m Emma, and I’m a Clinical Psychologist with over nine years of experience in adult mental health within the NHS. I have experience working across the lifespan, initially working as a mental health therapist within a specialist Dialectical Behavioural Therapy team with 16–25-year-olds with severe emotion regulation difficulties. I then went on to hold a Clinical Psychologist position within a general adult community mental health team, working with a wide age range and variety of presenting difficulties. I currently work as a Clinical Psychologist in an older people’s community mental health team where I specialise in working with adults aged 65+ with a range of mental health struggles and/or cognitive impairment. I also work as an inpatient Clinical psychologist for an older people’s mental health admission assessment unit, where I specialise in assessing and working with people experiencing acute mental health difficulties.

I have experience working with a wide range of difficulties including, but not limited to depression, anxiety, phobias, OCD, grief, low self-esteem/confidence, adjustment difficulties (e.g., difficulty adapting to stressful life events such as loss, retirement, injury/chronic illness and/or pain etc.), complex trauma, PTSD (including birth trauma), and attachment/ Interpersonal difficulties. I am trained in and draw from a range of evidence-based therapies, including, but not limited to, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT and trauma-focussed CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT), Systemic Therapy, and Schema therapy informed approaches.

I understand how daunting it can be to take the step to engage in therapy – it is a big commitment in many ways. This may or may not be your first time coming to therapy, you may have been struggling with your mood/anxiety/self-esteem etc. for a long time, or perhaps suddenly find yourself struggling after a significant life event. Whatever your circumstances are, my aim is to create a safe and containing space for you to explore and develop a better understanding of your difficulties and what might be keeping you stuck, as well as learning skills to help you move forward and thrive. I offer a free 10-minute consultation to help ease those potential initial nerves and help you decide if we would be a good fit for one other.
