Dr Humera Millar

HCPC Registered Clinical Psychologist

Hi, I’m Humera, an HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist and Associate Clinician of Illuminated Thinking. I have over sixteen years of post-qualification experience working as a Principal Clinical Psychologist in adult mental health services within NHS Scotland, which I have combined with private practice over the past three years. I use the depth of my experience and natural flexibility to tailor a range of evidence-based psychological approaches (such as cognitive behaviour therapy, solution focused therapy, schema focused therapy, EMDR and mindfulness based approaches including ACT and CFT), to the presenting problems, values and strengths of each individual I work with.

I also take into account the wider social context within which people live, believing that difficulties with our mental health are often a natural human response to trauma, environmental factors and wider societal pressures; at times however there may not even appear to be any obvious triggers. I therefore aim to create a safe and non-judgemental space for each and every one of my clients, to help them explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, and work towards their own identified goals.

I believe that warmth, respect for each person as an individual, and the therapeutic relationship are all fundamental to any therapeutic work, and that often through setting such conditions right people are more able to find their way forward again. Difficulties I can help with include adjustment to life events, anxiety (including performance/social anxiety and phobias), attachment/interpersonal difficulties, depression and low mood, low self esteem and low confidence, and trauma related difficulties including PTSD. I can offer longer term therapies for those who may benefit from exploring the impact of past experiences or relationships on their current problems, as well as more brief and focused forms of therapy for those who would prefer to work on their difficulties with more of a ‘here and now’ approach.

My fee is £120 per session and I accept referrals from most major medical insurance providers.
